Cruising!

There are nine million bicycles in Beijing. After a couple of days in Amsterdam I could have guessed that the same amount of two wheelers are rolling over the bridges in the city. (The fact you can’t deny is that the 750 000 inhabitants have 1 million bicycles.)

While Norwegian cyclists are threatened to wear a helmet and encouraged by a Tour the France-fewer to buy special clothes, the Dutch uses their everyday clothes and have never thought about putting a self-scaring and false-safety thing on their heads. (In Copenhagen there even is a kind of a fashion blog deicated to normal people in normal clothes on normal bikes…)

The traffic flows in the streets of Amsterdam – trams, cars and bikes in a seemingly dynamic mixture. It’s inspiring to see for a person who risks his health in the traffic when my bicycle is used in the streets of Bergen.

In Paris and many other European cities advert sponsored bikes have become a hit. Hi-tech bike stations pops up and makes it both easy and cool to cross the city with air in your hair.

But Norwegians have a disadvantage when it comes to weather. And according to the scientists the weather is not going to get better in the future if we continue to drive cars instead of cruise through the city on a bike…
